Chirag Mohanbhai Koradia joined the Indian Police Service on 29 August 2006 as a direct recruit through the Union Public Service Commission’s Civil Services Examination, and was allotted to the Gujarat cadre.

Probation for a new entrant runs through the National Police Academy and then through practical district attachment, before the first independent charge. It is the point at which an officer’s working knowledge of one state’s police organisation begins to accumulate.

Having held district charge as Superintendent of Police, Sabarkantha, he was transferred in July 2014 to the State Intelligence Bureau at Gandhinagar as Superintendent of Police, in a reshuffle that moved twenty-one officers of Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent rank across the state.

The two appointments sit at opposite ends of police work. A district officer answers publicly and immediately for law and order; an intelligence officer works quietly and in advance, and is judged by the accuracy of an assessment rather than by the speed of a response.

He served as Superintendent of Police, Chief Minister and VIP Security, Gandhinagar — an appointment recorded against his name in the Gujarat Government’s published lists of IPS officers across several years from 2016.

Protective security is organised entirely in advance: routes surveyed, contingencies rehearsed, and every movement coordinated between the security detail, the district police of the area being visited, the intelligence apparatus and central agencies. Its success is invisible by design.

As Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Crime), Vadodara City he held two portfolios that a city feels every day: the movement of a whole urban population, and the investigation of its crime.

On 31 October 2022 he was posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Panchmahal Range, with headquarters at Godhra. A range appointment changes the officer’s relationship to the work: the task is no longer to police, but to supervise how several districts police — to inspect, to set standards, and to move resources to where they are most needed.

In 2023 he was recorded as Additional Commissioner of Police, Sector I, Ahmedabad City. Ahmedabad is the largest police commissionerate in Gujarat, and a sector charge within it carries responsibility for a group of divisions in a dense urban jurisdiction — law and order, crime, and the daily management of a very large force.

In April 2024 the State Government promoted him to the grade of Inspector General of Police and appointed him to the vacant cadre post of Inspector General of Police, Border Range, Bhuj. He succeeded J. R. Mothaliya, who was posted as Inspector General of Police, Ahmedabad Range.

The order formed part of a large reorganisation of the Gujarat cadre — some thirty-five officers transferred and around twenty promoted — carried out in consultation with the Election Commission ahead of the general election.

The Gujarat Government’s published list of IPS officers, in its edition as on 31 August 2025, continued to record Chirag Koradia as Inspector General of Police, Border Range, Bhuj — an unbroken tenure in one of the state’s most geographically demanding commands.
